Pitch.

This blog is going to be about the presentation we pitched about our music video, and the reasons behind some of our decisions, and also in terms of presenting it to the reord label, why our group should be chosen to make the music video for the song 'Monster' by Lady Gaga. We created and presented our pitch within a powerpoint presentation.

Within our presentation we included the following things; why we chose Gaga, the target audience, the lyrics of the song, our initial ideas, the effects an costume and a final slide on the outcomes. With our presentation we made our slides full of images and visual things therefore we had more to say and we explained what we thought and ideas on each topic/slide rather than just showing the presentation.

The first slide of our presentation was simply just showing a picture of Lady Gaga. We chose to put this there so that we could have a chance to explain firstly why we chose to produce a music video to one of Lady Gaga's song. Our reasoning for choosing Lady Gaga was for many different reasons: we are all fans of hers, whether it is her music, her fearlessness when it comes to being different and also her outrageous outfits. Also because of these outrageous outfits that she wears and also her inventive and amazing music videos that she produces we thought that using one of her songs would be a great opportunity to be really creative and inventive ourselves. As well as thinking that it would be a really fun music video to produce we knew that making a Lady Gaga video would be a challenge however, we were all really up for that challenge and thought that it would make the process of making it more fun and rewarding, specifically when we see the finished project.

The second slide that was in our presentation was the one that revolved around the target audience of our music video and the artist. For this slide we covered it in images of Lady Gaga on different magazine covers and we also put some of her different web pages and groups on there. These were to show the variety of people within her target audience. We have talked about her target audience previously, and how there isn't really a specific genre or subculture within it and that she caters for all different types of people, which can be represented with the different types of magazine cover that she has appeared on (which is why we chose to put them within our pitch.) It can be hard to define specific demographics, however we believe that the few web pages that we put onto the slide can help us to identify some that may help us with this process. For example you can see who comments on the pages (like a Facebook group etc), one we picked up on was that there were a few comments by white, American, gay men. From this kind of demographic we found comments like: 'hail Queen Gaga' (the new pop princess, in their eyes'. This therefore not only shows her popularity with people and also the dedication of her fans, but it also shows the diversity within her fans.

On the third slide of our pitch presentation we put up the lyrics of the song we wanted to work with, 'Monster' off of The Fame Monster album. We highlighted some of the key phrases or lyrics that gave us ideas for our music video, and we also talked about why we chose that particular song. The reason we chose that particular song is because we knew that we need to have a song that didn't already have a music video made for it, this found to actually be a little hard because quite a lot of her songs have got music videos, even though they may not have been properly released yet. We then thought of looking up this song, as we actually all do really like this song already and we researched it through youtube, to see whether it did actually have a video, and it turned out that it didn't. We were really happy that it didn't as we know had a song and the fact that we all really liked this song was a bonus, as it would make the process more enjoyable. Another point that led us into picking this song is that it is actually a really catchy song and the lyrics were really inspiring and gave us some ideas that we could bring to life in the music video. We also found that the lyrics were quite narrative which kind of gave us a base for our music video, therefore we will probably be following the story that the lyrics tell, yet we know that we could also be very creative with this song and how we interpret it and incorporate it into the music video.

The fourth slide within our pitch is all about the initial ideas that we had when it comes to the song and our music video. The first thing that was taken in to consideration with this slide was the lyrics on the previous one, as we highlighted some key things that gave us some inspiration. These were things like: 'wolf in disguise' this mainly gave us the idea that we should/would have some kind of wolf/monster within the video, this then kind of led to us having the idea of having the other monsters (Frankenstein and Nosferatu) within the music video as well. There was also the lyric 'evil eyes' this kind of gave us an idea tat we could do some kind of shots within the video, where we could show just the eyes of the character. This could of our Gaga or of the evil monster, or it might even be an idea to have shots of both to show maybe some kind of eye contact between them and also possibly the contrast between the different character in this story/video, etc. We also placed quite a lot of images that we gathered from google and sites like that showed some of our other ideas that we had for the video. These would be things like the way we would have the monsters from the old movies in the video, as well as some of the locations we thought about using, all of these things have already been talked about within the initial ideas blog post.

The fifth slide within our presentation revolved around the effects and costume that we would like to use within our music video. This slide included many of the different effects that were/are hoping to include in our music video, to make it slightly more like a Lady Gaga production and also have that short movie feel. One of the first effects shown is the countdown on the film roll, this represents the idea that we wanted to have this kind of countdown at the beginning of the video to start it out and to also really give the viewer that feeling that they are watching some kind of film rather than a music video. Another effect that kind of relates to this movie feel, was that we were thinking of having the camera stutter a little during one, or maybe a few of the shots, it could even during these times maybe go along to the beat of the track, to give it an extra effect. We got this idea from when we were researching the older films and when we came across Nosferatu, I believe that it happened during one shot where he opened a set of double doors and the the kind impact was shown by the camera stuttering. One of the other effects that we looked at, and put an image of in the pitch, was having the credits at the beginning of the video, like there have been in some of Lady Gaga's previous videos, therefore in a way linking them. Also we thought that we could maybe use the credits as a way of entering the first shot, for instance (similar to in 'Telephone) where the camera will zoom in to the credits and then go into one of the letters and ends up into the setting for one of the first shots of the video.

Also in that slide we looked at and talked about the costumes that we were hoping to use within our music video. One of the main things that was said about the costume was to do with the monster characters we are going to have in the video. We said about how we wanted to kind of try and keep them like the originals quite a bit, for the monsters, however with Lady Gaga's costumes, we would like to keep them similar to the ones that would be used or are like the ones in the films however if possible we could 'Gaga them up' a little bit, making them so that it looks a little bit like something she would wear. We also talked about the costumes that the dancers in the video would. We have said before that we would probably have their costumes contrasting Lady Gaga's so for example, if she was in the role of Frankenstein's Bride and was wearing something white (like the bride's dress) then we would have the dancers dressed in black and vice versa. Another thing we thought for the dancers within the video was possibly having them wear mask, like the ones you see in phantom of the opera, just so they have that kind of mysterious factor, and also so that it kind of makes Lady Gaga stand out more.

The last slide within our pitch presentation was about the outcomes of this project and mainly about what we hope to achieve and get out of this project. The slide shows some other images that we have found during research that have given us a little inspiration when it comes to the music video. Within this we talked about why and how we are using intertextuality, for example that we are incorporating the old movies, mentioned before, into our music video using the characters for our monsters. Also why we have actually chose to do this. We wanted to used this idea within our music video as we have seen, when analysing some of Lady Gaga's previous video that she has used intertextuality, for example in 'Telephone' herself and Beyonce wore the costumes of superheroes and they also took pieces from films like Kill Bill within that music video. The reason we chose the horror movies and characters was because of the title and subject of the song - Monster, therefore we thought it would be best if we did actually include some kind of monster in the music video. We also showed that with this video we really wanted to make something that we could all be proud of and that we were happy with, we also said that we wanted to make a music video that did Lady Gaga and the song 'Monster' justice.

This basically tells you what we put into our pitch presentation and how we presented our ideas for the 'Monster' by Lady Gaga, music video.
