Video Analysis.

This blog post is going to contain the analysis of two music videos that have been made by Lady Gaga, that go with her songs, when they are played on music channels, such as MTV. The Lady Gaga music videos that I am going to compare/analyse are: her first song and music video that were released, Just Dance and I am also going analyse, what could be described as her most we known video, Telephone which features Beyonce.

The first video that I am going to analyse is 'Just Dance'. The first thing that you notice straight away, as soon as the video starts playing is the boom box/beat box which is being placed on a table. Also in the beginning segment we can see a white limo pulling up and we can also see a group of people walking, carrying the boom box, with Lady Gaga, who is wearing a bright pink top. The main reason that I have mentioned these specific things is because these acts in this music video can make Lady Gaga comparable to Madonna, as they can remind some people of Madonna music videos. For example the boom box being in the video, and one of the first things you see is similar to one of her videos. Also the white limo pulling up in the beginning can make people think back and can be related to Madonna's 'Music' video, where one of the first things that we see is a limo and we can see it, throughout Madonna's video pulling in and on screen and then pulling out and going off screen, which also happens in the 'Just Dance' video.
The next thing is the group of people walking past with the boom box, and Lady Gaga in her pink top. This can be related to the 'Hung Up' music video by Madonna. This is because in the video we see Madonna walking along with a group of people who are also carrying a boom box, therefore making those two parts of the music videos quite similar. However, also in this video, as said before, Lady Gaga is wearing a bright pink and in Madonna's 'Hung Up' music video she is wearing the quite iconic pink leotard/body suit piece, and because these things are quite similar and some people may relate them, it can spark up the whole Madonna vs Lady Gaga argument/topic that I talked about in my last blog post.

This music video also follows the lyrics to song. For example in the actual song there is a line where Lady Gaga says "Where are my keys, I lost my phone, phone." To which the video responds with two girls on a bed tipping out the contents of their bag and looking for something. When the line is over, we can see them looking at/reading something off of a phone, therefore indicating to the viewer that they have found this phone. There are quite a lot of other moments during the video that correspond to the lyrics. This is quite a popular technique among artists, and there are many that do this, across many different genres, as we know that from my blog post about exploring music videos, that Eminem's music video 'Stan' also uses this technique as the video that we see is kind of narrated by the lyrics of the song.

Another thing that I noticed during this video is that there is a guest appearance by the artist Akon. We know that she is also signed to his label, and that they are apart of interscope records. Anyway, the appearance from Akon, could mean that when people first saw this video and didn't really know who she was might have seen him, and if they were a fan of him and his music, they might have listened to the song or her music and they might have even followed her and her music, to see if they enjoyed it more as they know that she was kind of working with Akon, and they might like his work. This could possibly have increased her viewing numbers and even possibly her fan base or numbers, just because if her association with Akon.

There was also another common music element that I noticed whilst watching and analysing the music video was a little bit of possible product endorsement. During the video, on the floor, wear a pair of headphone however they we positioned so that we could see the label and recognise them, they were in fact Beats By Dre, which are a brand of high quality headphones that are created by Dr. Dre. This could also have increased Lady Gaga's popularity as this could have inspired fans of Dr.Dre to possibly listen to her music, or check her out. This could have also increased her popularity with different brands as they might have seen the headphones in the video and thought that if she was willing to have them in her video they might she be alright with them promoting their products within her future music videos.

This music video has a theme of a classic party scene running through it. It is as though she arrived at party, during the beginning of her music video and that they have just stayed and parted throughout the song and the night. It could be said that this then kind of communicated with the viewers or the audience, that when they here this song they should be at a party, or make sure that they have this song playing when they are at or having a party. It could also be interpreted in a different way and to some other people it could give off the meaning that whenever they hear this song that should do what the song says by 'just dancing'. But I think that whichever way you look at it, that this song can give out different meanings to do with the subject matter within her video, whether it is just dancing or having a party etc.

One of the main things that goes on in the music video is that there is a dance routine going on. This is kinda of a popular trait within music videos and it could be said specifically with pop artists. This dance routine consists of three dancers, including Lady Gaga who is in the centre. Also, towards the end of the song, when the beat kind of breaks down there are certain dance moves and little actions that Lady Gaga does, which again kind of narrate the video, however this time with the beat. These kind of dance routines could also be a way of communicating with the audience, I think because if there are fans of her then they may even take the time to learn the dance moves and include or perform then whenever they hear this song, in a way allowing them and the artist to kind of communicate.

This can then lead to the topic of the genre of the music video. There are many components, I believe, within the music that can all lead towards this video going under a certain genre. This genre, I think would mainly pop, but possibly more specifically disco pop. There are many things, that have been mentioned above that can lead to this kind of conclusion. For example, the dance routines, the kind of party scene, as well as the comparisons with Madonna ( the said Queen of Pop). Other things can include the beat box saying the word 'disco' on it as well as another kind of comment element of music videos, writing on the mirror with something like lipstick, and in this case it says dance. Therefore I think that these could lead to possibly communicating with the audience as well as also pointing towards what kind of genre this music video would be placed under.

The link for this music video is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Abk1jAONjw&ob=av2e

The second music video, of Lady Gaga's, that I looked at was: 'Telephone'
The first thing that you notice about this music video is that it is already quite different to her first one. This video starts off a lot like a film, they have kind of credits coming onto the screen that include the title of the song/video; telephone. They also say who is starring in the music video as well as who actually helped with the making of the music video itself.

Throughout the video, when it changes either to a different scene or location, the telephone dial, that was used in the titles/credits, kind of sweeps across the screen to make this transition smoother. I think that it could be a good idea and think that we all think we might use the same idea if having the music video kind of set out like a bit of a movie as Lady Gaga has done this in quite a few of her newer videos, so this video may be a good reference when it comes to deciding things like that.

Another little effect that we see at the beginning of the video, that also adds to the film feel of the video, is that during the time that Lady Gaga, or her character, is walking in to the jail/down the corridor, we see this through the viewpoint of a cctv camera, and we also have the effects of a cctv camera, making it feel again a lot like a film. These kinda of effect may also be a good thing that we could possibly use when it comes to actually making our music video.

There is one thing that does appear in this video, that was present in the previous 'Just Dance' music video, and that is the boom box/beat box. However this time it comes into play in the exercise yard of the jail. This can kind of be one of those iconic pieces that we may see in many of her music video, and which could possibly end up becoming one of the things that in a way represents her. I think that this could also give us the idea to use in our music video, that we should possibly carry one or a couple of over items over from one shot or scene to another to kind of have this relationship with her actual music videos.

Another thing that happens in this music video, that also happened in the previously analysed video, was even more product endorsement. This time though, there was more than item within the video. Again we had the Beats By Dre, however this time they were actually the Lady Gaga, versions of these headphones, which I believe they may have worked on together, these are called HeartBeats. Another form of product endorsement was with the Virgin LG mobile phone, that was placed with a character to which Lady Gaga then reached and took off of her, just when over the speaker it was said that there was a call for Lady Gaga, which could then have made some viewers think that it may have had something to do or may involve that phone. This product endorsement could possibly lead to the purchase of these different product which then eventually increase the popularity, even more so, of Lady Gaga, and because of this, it could also be said that this is another way in which she communicates with her audience or fans.

In the previous video we had like a fashion comparison between the pink that Lady Gaga was wearing and the pink that Madonna was wearing. However in this music video there is another little kind of comparison we make, but this time not to Madonna. In this video when she is in the jail she is wearing these coke cans in her hair, this may have been new to some people however it has been researched and spotted that this has been done before on a couple of occasions; this fashion statement has been worn by the likes of Tyra Banks and also Ashley Olsen, when they have been modelling. This could then mean that Lady Gaga possibly likes to use things that have been done in the past ad that may be things that she liked about those times, I think that this may possibly be a good thing to research and find things that maybe she hasn't done yet and that maybe we could use during our music video.

Also during this music video there are many telephones popping up throughout. There are many times when Lady Gaga is actually on/using a telephone. Other times she actually has one in and made out of hair, she also wears a blue hat that has a telephone on it which she actually uses to narrate some of the lyrics into, there is also another time nearing the end of the video where Beyonce is, just like Lady Gaga, narrating the lyrics into and actual telephone. This can kind of therefore be putting more emphasis on the song and this could also therefore with radio play etc make the song get known and become remembered and possibly make it one of those very iconic songs with that again iconic music video. Also when they are using these telephones and narrating the chorus throughout the music video, when the song kind of has a stutter effect, they have used some effects that makes the actual image on the screen stutter with the song, kind of increasing the narrative technique that is used throughout this music video.

There is also a break in this video when Lady Gaga has just come out of jail where she meets up with Beyonce in the vehicle. This again makes the music video make you feel as though you are watching a film, as the song basically cuts out and then you just have them talking. This happens again later on in the music video when they are at the restaurant and also the cooking sequence, making it feel slightly a little more dramatic as without hearing the song in the video at those moments it becomes a little more serious. I believe that this can then increase the audience of the music video as it does become like a little/short movie, and it can therefore attract many different types of people, with different psychographics, demographics and socio-economic classifications, because of the brilliance of this video and how it has been put together and is entertaining as well as many different people being told about it through word of mouth, and also these social networking sites that we talked about in the previous blog post.

It then turns back in to a music video, obviously when the song comes back into it, but we are also presented with a dance routine. However this time, unlike the previous routines, we are greeted with a whole group of people, including the two artists. This can then turn this back into a pop video. Although this dance routine is slightly different than others as we can see that Lady Gaga and Beyonce are dressed in very patriotic clothing that also resemble superheroes. This makes this part of the music video very unique and also memorable, as a lot of people will remember the dance routine and the outfits that they wore during this part of the music video. As said before this then bring the music video out of the film type feel that we got before and almost dives straight back in to telling us that this is a pop music video.

Then comes the ending of this music video which leads from another segment where we have no song and just the talking making it feel like a film again. This then has the two artists leaving the story and the music video driving off down the road in their van, which is like a typical kind of cheesy movie ending. We are then actually greeted with a screen that says 'To Be Continued' which in a way grabs the viewers interest as you can't but wonder when this video will be continued and we are eager to see it. Again carrying on with the film like theme the music video finally ends with even more credits rolling up the screen, still going on the theme of making this music video feel a lot like a little short movie. It could possibly say that even though this is a pop video it could have in a way possibly created its own genre due to the fact that there were some many film like techniques and things in it that it shouldn't really be classed as a music video.

And those were the two Lady Gaga music video that I analysed.

Target Audience of Artist/Band.

There are many different ways that Lady Gaga can communicate with her fans and where fans can voice their opinions about practically anything to do with the artist. There are some pictures below that show some of the different methods she uses:

By having all of these different Lady Gaga fan bases and websites, it allows the fans to be more in touch with the artist and possibly get exclusives on things like new songs and tour dates etc. Also by having these different types of web pages and forums she widens her range of fans and increases her audience. This is because there are many different people that use the different sites which therefore increases the audience's variety. You can also see from the lists of fans on the sides of the web pages ( facebook and twitter etc.) you can see, from their profile images, that there is variety of ages within her fans.

There have been many arguments from different people saying that Lady Gaga is similar to Madonna, and even that she has the same kind of iconic status as Madonna has. Also that she can reinvent herself multiple times, which could be compared to maybe the ways that Madonna has reinvented herself. There was a quote on this website that I found the quote, which is placed below,
http://www.bestweekever.tv/2010-03-29/biggest-pop-culture-controversies-lady-gaga-vs-madonna/, that states that comparing Lady Gaga to Madonna is like comparing apples to much older apples. Therefore saying that these two artist are very alike. Also with there being comments like these that say these artists are so similar that, and the fact that there music is quite similar, that they could possibly well have the same types of target audience and fan base, however just in different generations. It has also been said that Lady Gaga is the Madonna of our generation, which again increases the similarities and comparability of the two great artists. The image below shows a screen grab from the website that has been linked above showing a comment from a fan about Lady Gaga and the whole Lady Gaga vs Madonna saga. I picked up and used the quote as I believe that it will help us in finidng ou t the traget audience of Lady Gaga, which should hopefully help us when it comes to decision making and actually creating the music video. The quote was written by a 17 year old, which is stated by the comment writer, at the beginning of the comment, this therefore can tell us that there may be a lot of teenagers and young adults that contribute to her her fan base and target audience. Also the commenter says the she is part of the Lady Gaga era, and I believe that this could increase the amount of people around the age of the comment writer becoming fans as they may in some way relate to her. However although she may have a lot of young adults fans I believe that we cannot pinpoint a specific age group for the target audience of Lady Gaga, as like Madonna, she has such different styles used in her songs that it could be liked by pretty much anyone. I think that because she is so comparable to Madonna and because there have been many people that have compared the two artists, that some fans of Madonna's have become fans of Lady Gaga, even if they were in the era of Madonna. And because of this i don't think that we could nor would it be right for us to pin point a specific age group or limit, and say that that would be Lady Gaga's target audience. I think that we would have to say that maybe she doesn't really have a target audience as she has a varied audience/group of listeners/fans. Although if were really had to pick Lady Gaga's target audience, I think that we would have to say that it would be teenagers to young adults, the reason that I think we would have to say this, is because that I believe this kind of age group probably dominates the fan base and audience of Lady Gaga.

Although we have said that there could possibly be a way that we could determine, if needed to, a target audience for Lady Gaga, due to the ages/age group that dominates her fan base, with the help of comparisons between herself and Madonna, we can come back to square one and saying that Lady Gaga doesn't really have a target audience when it comes to publicity and specifically the magazine covers that Lady Gaga has appeared on. Usually artists appear on possibly on a couple of different types of magazine covers, if that, however Lady Gaga has been featured on the front covers of many very different magazine types, and this doesn't really help us at all when it comes to determining her target audience. Some of the magazine covers that Lady Gaga has appeared on can be seen below:

There are many different types of magazine covers, above, that Lady Gaga has appeared on, ranging from lads magazines to music magazines as well as, glossy fashion magazines. This therefore, again proves that it is quite difficult for us to determine what Lady Gaga's target audience is, as the different magazines obviously have different target audience themselves and with Lady Gaga appearing on the cover of all the above magazines, therefore, it becomes very difficult for us to determine a target audience of specific psychographics, demographics and socio- economics.

Also the fact that she has appeared on all these magazine covers, shows the level of her popularity and how much, she is kind of, in demand and wanted by all aspects of the media. With her appearing on these covers she boost her own image and becomes even more noticed, and eventually turned into a bit of a household name. There could be many different reasons as to why Lady Gaga has appeared or chosen to be featured on the covers of these different magazines. She could have chose to appear on the magazines that could be a little more aimed at men, such as the above FHM magazine and also possibly Q magazine, to boost her name and image within the male audience. This could be because of that fact they it would be thought that they might be less likely to listen to her music unless it is played on the radio, therefore by appearing on these magazines and also ones similar to these she gets herself noticed with the male readers ( as well as the possibly readers of magazines such as Q), which could then lead to them being intrigued by her and possibly resulting in them listening to more of her music etc.

She has also featured on many fashion and glossy (fashion related) magazines, which can also be seen above. There are many different styles and different looks of Lady Gaga on the different magazines, therefore showcasing that there may be different sides to her. And this new style of outstanding clothing is something that the industry hasn't really seen before, or for a long time at least, and it could be thought that these magazines all want a piece of this new icon and her style and therefore want her to appear on their magazines, so that it is seen or thought that that magazine is really up to date with all the new fashion and trends and things that are going on in the fashion world. Also on some of the magazines she is wearing quite outrageous outfits that range from the meat suit to the bubble outfit. She is also well known for some of her strange and outgoing outfits that she will wear nearly what seems like all the time, these outfits, as well as her growing popularity and chart topping music could be just some of the reasons that she is on these magazine covers.

It could also be said that she is a style icon for other musical artists and celebrities. The reason that I say this is because, when we were doing some music video research only Lady Gaga, we came across the video for 'Paparazzi'. At one point during this video, she is wearing a suit that is or looks like it is made out of a gold metal. This same kind of outfit can then be seen in the Beyonce music video 'Sweet Dreams', throughout this video she wears a similar kind of outfit, made out of a similar looking gold metal, however the difference with the outfits is that Lady Gaga's, I believe, is more like a dress, whereas Beyonce's is a sort of corset/bodice item. Therefore, this could possibly mean that Lady Gaga has influenced other artists and celebrities with new and intriguing sense of style and fashion.

Another thing that I did to try and get a little bit closer to finding out more information on the target audience of Lady Gaga. We logged onto the social networking site Facebook, and found a page that is a group that is made in favour of Lady Gaga by some of her fans, which people can join and leave comments about or to do with Lady Gaga. So, we thought that it might be a good idea for us to post a comment or message onto this Lady Gaga group page, so that we ticked the box of making a questionnaire type thing in order to help us find out the kind of target audience of Lady Gaga. You can see a print screen of the group page as well as the comment that we posted below:

You can see that we stated that we were doing a media project and that it would be helpful if we could get some information on some of her fans, such as age gender etc. We posted this message/comment on September 30th, I believe it says on the group page, and over a week later we checked it to see if anyone had commented. Unfortunately no one had commented and nothing had been added to our comment/message. So we are no closer into finding out more information on the target audience of Lady Gaga, other than the information that we have already gathered, through research. However, I will definitely be keeping an eye on and checking the message that we posted on the group/fan page to see if there are any comments added at a later date. Which could then increase the knowledge that we already have on the target audience of Lady Gaga.

Permission.

This blog is going to contain an email that we wrote to the record label behind Lady Gaga, that has the rights to the song, and asking them if we would be able to use the song in a our music video. The email that was written has been posted below:

The email was wrote asking if we could have permission to use the song 'Monster' by Lady Gaga in our music video. As you can see above it states that we would only be using the song in tis music video, which is going to be used for educational purposes only and that we therefore wouldn't be making any profit from the production of our music video. Copyright is very important to the music industry and I think specifically to the producers and artists of songs. The reason that we have copyright in this industry, to put it simply, is so that the producers and the artists (the record label) have the exclusive statutory rights to the tracks/lyrics/songs that they create. They therefore have the rights and control over the copying, adapting and the distribution of the work. This, in theory, should stop things like the stealing of either a beat or melody, recordings or even the lyrics of a song from being 'stolen' and used in another song and claimed to be another artists or persons own. Therefore, in order to avoid any problems and confrontations concerning the use of the Lady Gaga song 'Monster', we have used the email to ask for the copyright permission to be able to use the song in our music video for our A2 media coursework.

Song Choice.

In our group, it took a little while to decide what song we were going to use. At first we didn't really have any ideas, so we then went on to youtube to see what video and songs were popular at the moment. We then came up with the idea they we all wanted to use a Lady Gaga song for our music video, we are all Lady Gaga fans, so it kind of made sense, because we know we all would be really into making the video to a high standard. We then had to decide what song of hers we were going to use, this proved quite difficult as most of her songs do have music video even though some of them may not have been released or seen as much as her others. We then came across her song Monster and we all actually really liked the song and it is really catchy and were really thinking about using this for our music video, we then typed this into youtube to make sure that there wasn't already an official music video for this song, and there wasn't. That was when we decided to make our music video to the song Monster by Lady Gaga. We also looked at the lyrics of the song which helped us make our decision as we could envision the things that we could put into our music video and also things like where in the song/video they would go. These lyrics can be seen below:

Don’t call me GaGa
I’ve never seen one like that before
Don’t look at me like that
You amaze me

He ate my heart
He a-a-ate my heart
(You little monster)

He ate my heart
He a-a-ate my heart out
(You amaze me)

Look at him
Look at me
That boy is bad
And honestly
He’s a wolf in disguise
But I can’t stop staring in those evil eyes

I asked my girlfriend if she’d seen you round before
She mumbled something while we got down on the floor baby
We might’ve fucked not really sure, don’t quite recall
But something tells me that I’ve seen him, yeah

That boy is a monster
M-M-M-Monster
That boy is a monster
M-M-M-Monster
That boy is a monster
Er-er-er-er

He ate my heart
(I love that girl)
He ate my heart
(Wanna talk to her, she’s hot as hell)

He licked his lips
Said to me
Girl you look good enough to eat
Put his arms around me
Said “Boy now get your paws right off me”

I asked my girlfriend if she’d seen you round before

She mumbled something while we got down on the floor baby
We might’ve fucked not really sure, don’t quite recall
But something tells me that I’ve seen him, yeah

That boy is a monster
M-M-M-Monster
That boy is a monster
M-M-M-Monster
That boy is a monster
Er-er-er-er

He ate my heart
(I love that girl)
He ate my heart
(Wanna talk to her, she’s hot as hell)

He ate my heart
He ate my heart
Instead he’s a monster in my bed

I wanna Just Dance
But he took me home instead
Uh oh! There was a monster in my bed
We french kissed on a subway train
He tore my clothes right off

He ate my heart the he ate my brain
Uh oh uh oh
(I love that girl)
(Wanna talk to her, she’s hot as hell)

That boy is a monster
M-m-m-monster
(Could I love him?)

That boy is a monster
M-m-m-monster
(Could I love him?)

That boy is a monster
M-m-m-monster
(Could I love him?)

That boy is a monster
Er-er-er-er

We thought that this song had a lot of potential and that we could follow the lyrics of the song to make up a storyline that could then run through our music video.

When we decided that we wanted to do a music video to a Lady Gaga song we didn't really have that many songs to choose from because she has made a music video for a lot of her songs, even if they haven't been released. Therefore out of the songs that we did have left we chose the song Monster, which as said before we all thought was a really catchy song and that we all like. Also with this song, because we all liked it, it would mean that we would have a lot of fun with the making of this music video. Plus we could be really inventive with this video because of the lyrics and the way that there is a little story going on in them, we could elaborate on this and make up a good story and put a video together using the story of the song Monster.

Exploring Music Videos.

This blog is going to be about/include the analysis of four different music videos. I am going to write a brief description about each of the music videos that I have chosen and I am also going to put a link, from youtube, to the actual music video.

The First music video that I will be exploring is Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. This video has ben considered the first ever music video because the producers used video instead of using film to make the video. The original purpose of this video was for it to be played on Top Of The Pops, when the band couldn't actually perform the song live, due to the fact that the song was just too complicated to perform. One of the main things to say about the music video, when exploring or analysing it is that it is quite a simple video that used little effects. For this video the band simply wanted to bring their album cover to life.

The genre of this video, it can be said is operatic rock, mainly because that was the genre of the actual song, and also Queen themselves, were a rock band, so I think that it would definitely be categorised under the rock genre. In this video the band communicate with the audience as they are looking down the camera and performing the lyrics to song, which is otherwise known as simply performing to the camera.

There is also an element towards the end of the video where they are performing the song on stage at a concert to an audience.

And the most obvious element that is used in this music video, even though they are only used a small amount, is the special effects,
this is maybe one of the most memorable things about music video. Along with the composition/positioning of the band members, which is similar to the album cover.

And here is the link to the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJ9rUzIMcZQ

The second music video that I looked at was Get Your Freak On by Missy Elliott. One of the first things you notice about this video when watching is that they have taken photographs of moves within the dance and put two/three of them together to make that part of the dance move again. Using the still photographs to make shots of the dance throughout the video.

The next thing I noticed about this video, which relates to the last point is that all the way through this video there is a choreographed dance, and a group of dancers performing this, along the artist doing either her own dance moves or possibly using a move from the choreographed piece. The dancing in the video then can be related to how the video communicates a meaning towards the audience.

The title of the song is Get Your Freak On, which could be like related to dancing and to get dancing, therefore meaning the dancing relates to the song and that also the dance performed is how the video communicates, to the audience, the meaning of the song. Also during the dance and video special effects can be seen, for example Missy Elliott's head and neck expand as if elasticated and come right out toward the screen.

Also throughout the video the artist and also other artists that appear in the video will look into the camera either dancing or kind of lip sync/say the lyrics of the song, directly addressing the audience.

The genre of this song and music video I would say would be kind of dance/hip hop, and I think its audience may be people who would listen to that genre of music and also people that may like to dance or relate to the song, so I think that this and also the video before it (Queen) would have quite a wide audience.

The next video that I looked was Stan by Eminem featuring Dido. This video gives you like a look into the characters and their kind of story, through the scene that takes place, before the song actually starts. One of the first main elements of a music video that we see is a special effect, we see the character Stanley dying his hair, and the blonde suddenly covers over his hair, whilst he's looking in the mirror, which then later on relates to the rest of the video and the song.

Then the song starts to come into the video, and we understand that the genre of it is rap/hip hop, which may then bring in the audience of rap and hip hop fans, that may be young adults, the older teenagers. When the lyrics of the song come in, we see that the characters of the video are narrating the song, the girlfriend will sing the lyrics of Dido and obviously Stan will rap Eminem's part, which is the letters that the fan writes to the artist.

However later on in the video the artist then starts to write a letter back to his fan, to which the artist, Eminem, actually appears in the video and his saying his own lyrics to add to the story.

It can be said that the story of the video or what it represents is the obsession between fan and icon. As in the video we see a fan of Eminem writing to him and how much he is a fan due to all the pictures on the wall. However as the video progresses it shows the extremeness of his dedication towards the artist, and how this affects his life and the consequences of his actions.

We can also see how this affects the artists when he receives the news and also how feels about the situation when the camera does a kind of close up on his expression.

The last video that I looked at was All The Small Things by Blink 182. With this video as soon as it starts the song straight away comes in, unlike the previous video. The genre of this, I would say is a pop rock video/sing, and I think that the audience would be mainly teenagers, yet still having quite a wide audience. This video is quite a short video, and I don't think, again unlike the previous video, that the song narrates the video.

However with this video it is a parody of like pop videos and pop artists and boy bands, and I think that this could be like showing/representing that they are or are going to be different from these types of artists, because they are poking fun at them and also their videos. The artists and their videos, that can be seen in the Blink 182 video are Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera (Genie In A Bottle) and the iconic Backstreet Boys - I Want It That Way.

They have used like special effects to come into the video going from a blurred screen to focusing in on the band members recreating the boy band getting off of the plane. They also cut away to different shots within the video using that same type of effect, when like zooming in on the singers face and also when they go back into the other video shots ( the parody parts).

They also again are looking straight down the camera as if they are just like performing the song to you when watching the video. And it also shows the band having a live set where they are performing the song on a stage kind of area with an audience.

That was my analysis of the four different music videos that I looked at / explored.
