Permission.

This blog is going to contain an email that we wrote to the record label behind Lady Gaga, that has the rights to the song, and asking them if we would be able to use the song in a our music video. The email that was written has been posted below:

The email was wrote asking if we could have permission to use the song 'Monster' by Lady Gaga in our music video. As you can see above it states that we would only be using the song in tis music video, which is going to be used for educational purposes only and that we therefore wouldn't be making any profit from the production of our music video. Copyright is very important to the music industry and I think specifically to the producers and artists of songs. The reason that we have copyright in this industry, to put it simply, is so that the producers and the artists (the record label) have the exclusive statutory rights to the tracks/lyrics/songs that they create. They therefore have the rights and control over the copying, adapting and the distribution of the work. This, in theory, should stop things like the stealing of either a beat or melody, recordings or even the lyrics of a song from being 'stolen' and used in another song and claimed to be another artists or persons own. Therefore, in order to avoid any problems and confrontations concerning the use of the Lady Gaga song 'Monster', we have used the email to ask for the copyright permission to be able to use the song in our music video for our A2 media coursework.
